TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – You can help people in need by stuffing a bus with food donations.
The annual partnership between Topeka Metro and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1360 to support Project Topeka takes place Saturday, April 19.
Local 1360 member Jeremy Holloway and Topeka Metro’s Keri Renner visited Eye on NE Kansas to share the details.
Stuff the Bus has been going on for 39 years – since 1986 – the same year that Project Topeka began. People are invited to bring donations of non-perishable food or money. It will be used to stock the shelves of seven area food pantries.
Topeka Metro will part its bus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19 outside the Dillons at Fairlawn Plaza, SW 21st and Fairlawn Rd. They hope to beat their record of 2,5000 pounds in food donations.
Topeka Metro also reminds people that children age 18 and under can ride their buses for free from May 1 to Aug. 30. Children younger than age five must have a parent, older sibling or babysitter accompany them.
