Editor’s note | Selecting the marathon medals

Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend director Jan Seeley had one goal in mind when selecting the medals for this year’s races.

“Every year, they have to be better than the ones before,” Seeley said.

Awards, apparel and promotional product vendor Always Advancing rose to the challenge with an array of medals that resemble the Grange Grove gates and open up to reveal the weekend’s ‘Tradition and Triumph’ theme.

“To have those Grange Grove doors opening and it being the 100th anniversary, and with our theme this year of ‘Tradition and Triumph,’ it just all kind of fit,” Seeley said.

“There has to be a wow moment, and the fact that the medals can stand on their legs, on the gate bottoms, is something we’ve never done before.”

It’ll be a tall order for the 2026 medals to exceed. But Seeley and her staff aren’t ones to shy away from the challenge.

“We set the bar very high here,” Seeley said. “We’re incredibly self-critical and break down everything. How can we do better? What can we do? So, you know, we’ll do that.”
