Parents, kids relied on MCC childcare service. Where will they turn now?

Closing a longstanding preschool contradicts what MCCD claims it upholds for the community, for its student body and its staff.

Mesa Community College will close the doors of its Children’s Center preschool program on May 9.

This has been an invaluable resource to the students of Mesa Community College — those with children as well as those without.

The Children’s Center provides students earning a degree in early childhood education a unique opportunity to work directly with children.

Additionally, the Children’s Center is a preschool that accommodates MCC students with children and their schedules not only for classes but exam weeks as well.

No other preschool provides such flexibility.

Going to college while raising a child is one of the hardest things a parent can do, and now MCC has decided to do away with essential support for its parent-students.

Serving the community is part of the Mesa Community College and Maricopa Community College District’s commitment to their local communities and is included as part of their mission statement and values.

“People Over Profits” is a claim made on the Maricopa Community College website. Closing this center contradicts what MCCD claims it upholds for the community, for its student body and its staff.
