NMU student group installs ADA-compliant library at Kids Cove II Playground

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Marquette’s Kids Cove II Playground is home to a new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant library.

The Northern Michigan Constructors student organization earned the Project of the Year award at NMU for constructing a one-shelf library that’s accessible to people in wheelchairs. The group installed the Little Free Library at the playground on Thursday.

Vice President of Public Relations Connor Lackas is excited to see the effect the library has on the community.

“It’s a small structure, but we’re hoping that it has a big impact here,” said Lackas. “We’re excited for that.”

Marquette Playgrounds for All Committee Treasurer Barb Coleman says the library fits in with the playground’s overall message.

“It says just exactly what the second Kids Cove says – everyone is welcome here,” said Coleman.

The library works on the honor system, so you can take and leave books at any time.
