IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa men’s basketball team has flipped a recruit its way.

The Hawkeyes signed West Des Moines Valley senior Trevin Jirak, the 2025 Iowa Mr. Basketball, pulling the Tiger standout away from his previous commitment to Northern Iowa.

Jirak, a 6-foot-11, 260-pound center, is the first class of 2025 recruit for new head coach Ben McCollum.

“Trevin is a skilled post player who can pass, post and shoot,” said McCollum. “He grew a few inches during the school year to get him to around 6-foot-11, which can make an impact in the Big Ten Conference. We’re really looking forward to getting him to Iowa City.”

Jirak was named Mr. Basketball after averaging 16.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 blocks per game for Valley, which won its third straight Class 4A state title this winter.
