STEUBENVILLE — Similar to the previous two games, Big Red got behind early Thursday evening.

Unlike the losses to Brooke and Wheeling Park, though, visiting Indian Valley kept its foot on the gas and did not leave much optimism for a comeback.

The Braves plated five runs in the top of the first, then tacked on three each in the third, fourth and fifth before Big Red got on the board on the way to a 14-3 triumph at the Crimson Complex.

Indian Valley improved to 7-3 with what was a third-straight win. Big Red dropped to 4-6 with an inverse streak of three games.

“It’s not going to get better until we change our attitude and concentrate on what we’re supposed to be doing,” Big Red head coach Fred Heatherington said. “It’s up to us. We’ve got to take a look in the mirror and fix our attitude. Once we do that, we’ll be fine.”

Jaxon Burcher led the way for Indian Valley with two homers, a two-run shot in the first and a three-run blast in the fifth, finishing with three hits and six RBIs. Eric Golder had a triple and three RBIs.

Big Red, needing five runs to keep the run rule out of play, did put some hits together in the bottom of the fifth to get three runs across, though came up short of extending the game.

Royal Mayo got Big Red on the board with a sac fly, then Maddox Gulan, who had singled, scored on a wild pitch for the second run.

The third came across when Hayden Hicks hit a two-out RBI single to bring home Matt Fabbro. Hicks had Big Red’s first two hits of the game, both doubles, for a three-hit day.

Big Red has some time to regroup as it is off until Tuesday when Edison comes to the Crimson Complex.
