The West Las Vegas e-sports team won the Class 3A state championship last weekend, earning the top cumulative scores in a variety of video games, testing their skills across all genres.

The Dons beat out second place Bosque and third place Sandia Prep to earn the championship in their classification.

The event took place across three days of competition, with points accumulated through different games each day.

Day one featured League of Legends, Hearthstone, and Rocket League.

Day two featured Splatoon, Madden NFL 24, NBA 2K 24 and Street Fighter 6.

Day three featured Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers.

The Dons won the championship by being the most consistent team throughout the competition. Though they only placed in first place in Splatoon, the Dons placed highly in almost every game, showing their competitiveness in each genre.

E-sports were first added to NMAA competition in the 2018-19 school year, and has seen significant growth in each year since. This year, more than 90 teams participated.

All matches took place at the Berna Facio Professional Development Center in Albuquerque, the same place the championships have been held since in-person matches began in 2022.
