MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Cricket Stop Cricketing–that’s the name of Memphis native and rapper NLE Choppa’s new children’s book he’s using to engage little kiddos about the importance of literacy in early education.

Wednesday morning the popular rap star stopped by the Porter-Leath campus in South Memphis to read his new unreleased book.

Students in both preschool and early head start programs had a special surprise during their annual Spring Egg Hunt to hear the positive message behind NLE Choppa’s book, Cricket Stop Cricketing.

He said his goal is to plant the seed for the importance of literacy for young kids in Memphis.

“I feel like books like this can open the palete to become open to learning things like this nature or like I said the more of the story, be kind to other people, take heat from signs. It could be assigned from God,” said NLE Choppa. “And one of the most important ones, I can’t remember off the top of my head, but it says don’t become prideful, remain humble and that’s like the whole origin of NLE Choppa and what I represent.”

Choppa said he hopes to officially release his first children’s book Cricket Stop Cricketing sometime in August along with an animated short film.
