LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock ministry is helping families stretch their budgets by offering basic essentials, for free.
The Green Lawn Blessing Center, a ministry of Green Lawn Church of Christ, provides clothing, food, hygiene products and even household items to those in need.
Guests are given 20 minutes to shop, and everything from baby clothes and towels to furniture and children’s books is available at no cost.
Santiago Rodriguez, who helps lead the ministry says the need has only grown as prices rise.
“Oh, my goodness, if you look at today’s prices, if you go out to the store or one of these clothing stores, the prices are ridiculous,” Rodriguez said.
Some families served by the Blessing Center live on as little as $600 to $800 per month. While visitors are asked to bring a photo ID for clothing and hygiene items and to share basic income information, Rodriguez says no one is turned away for seeking help.
Families can receive clothing every two weeks and food or hygiene items once a month.
“We feel blessed to be able to help somebody,” Rodriguez said. “One of the things we are short in most of the time is baby formula, but we’re really blessed to be able to help folks out.”
The Blessing Center operates at 5072 19th Street and is open on Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursdays 9 to 11 a.m., and the second and fourth Saturdays of each other from 10 a.m. to noon.
