The game turned in the top of the first inning after Salem’s Troy Gibson led off with a walk and Brayden Van Dyne hit a one-out single. Riesen’s short chopper near the first-base line was fielded by Wood, who made a low throw to first and Gibson scored. But Riesen was called out for running inside the base path and the runners returned to first and second. The next batter hit a groundout to get the Lions out of the inning.
