It comes a month after the Magherafelt-native stepped down as the creative director of Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe following 11 years in the role.
The 40-year-old’s departure was announced on March 17 as the sector struggles with slow growth amid the cost-of-living crisis which has been deterring shoppers and the impact of China’s property crisis.
A number of resignations and forced departures have resulted in a major reshuffle of jobs at high-end fashion brands including at Dior.
English designer Kim Jones stepped down as artistic director for menswear at the French fashion house sparking speculation that Anderson would be his successor.
On Thursday, Anderson took to social media to post a Dior label accompanied by a four-leaf clover to confirm the news.
A number of fashion outlets – including British GQ – have reported he is expected to present his debut collection at Paris fashion week in June.
Anderson, who also operates eponymous label JW Anderson, has garnered critical acclaim for his innovative styles and gender-fluid designs sported by some of the biggest stars in the world including singer Rihanna as she stunned spectators at during her 2023 Super Bowl half-time show.
The London College of Fashion graduate began his career in Prada’s marketing department before launching his own label in 2008.
He was subsequently appointed as the creative director at leather goods brand Loewe in 2013 and has won high-profile awards, including designer of the year at the 2024 Fashion Awards for the second year in a row.
The son of Ireland rugby legend, Willie Anderson, was also crowned International Designer of the Year at the CFDA Awards in 2023.
“I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, the tenacity and the resourcefulness to find a way to say ‘yes’ to all my wildly ambitious ideas,” Anderson said in a statement issued last month in which he reflected on the past 11 years.
“While my chapter draws to a close, Loewe’s story will continue for many years to come, and I will look on with pride, watching it continue to grow, the amazing Spanish brand I once called home.”
Loewe flourished under his leadership despite a pandemic and global turn away from luxury fashion.
The brand’s parent company owner, LVMH, achieved a 30% revenue increase to €810.8m (£681.2m) and 62% rise in net profit to €207.3m (£174.2m) in the 12 months ended December 31, 2023.

Most notably, Anderson was behind the brand’s Puzzle bag, which has become one of its most recognisable pieces.
Loewe CEO, Pascale Lepoivre, said he was “incredibly grateful” to the designer who displayed “unmatched creativity, passion and dedication” while working for the firm.
“With him as its creative director, the house has risen to new heights with international recognition,” he added.
“The Puzzle bag, celebrating its 10th anniversary, has become a true icon. And the brand codes that he has created, rooted in craft, will live on as his legacy.”
Anderson has previously spoken about his upbringing in Co Londonderry and his time as a pupil at Rainey Endowed School and recalled the impact of an IRA bomb in Magherafelt and driving past the scene every day to get to school.
“I remember a sports shop being blown off the face of the earth,” he said.
American pop star Sabrina Carpenter (25) stepped on to the Grammy Awards red carpet wearing a custom dress from JW Anderson before picking up two prestigious gongs at the Los Angeles ceremony in February.
The Espresso singer was snapped channelling her inner Cinderella as she posed in the baby blue gown.
Other celebrity fans include Jamie Dornan, Jennifer Lawrence, Anthony Hopkins and Cate Blanchett.
