HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Food Lion celebrated a major milestone on Thursday in their fight against hunger.
They’ve donated one billion meals ahead of schedule.
“I’m very lucky and I can’t tell you how lucky I am. I do this because other people are not quite so lucky and I can do that and I can exercise my power to help other people,” said Richard, a volunteer.

The company partnered with the Low Country Food Bank at St. John’s food pantry on Thursday. Volunteers helped distribute both perishable and non-perishable items to local families in need.
“Back in 2014, when we started Food Lion Feeds, we made a commitment to donate 500 million meals by 2020. In 2019, we hit that milestone early and made another commitment to donate 1 billion more meals by 2025. We’ve already reached that milestone, so today we are here not only to celebrate and acknowledge the milestone of 1 billion more meals by 2025, but then to announce our other goal of donating an additional 1 billion meals by 2032,” said Angela Wheeler, Food Lion Community Outreach Specialist.
