Dickinson County farm gives families glimpse into farm life

NORWAY, Mich. (WLUC) – Almost 30 kids line up to take a turn riding horses at Pine Creek Farm.

Tonight was a special Easter themed version of Kids’ Night Out, a monthly event inviting the community onto the farm.

Helping lead the horse is Ella Kasten, who’s been coming to the farm since last September.

Kasten says she enjoys sharing her love of horses with the attendees.

“I think it’s cool they get to have a change in environment and be around horses and that’s something that I love so I like to share that with them,” Kasten said.

22 horses are boarded at Pine Creek, mostly owned by riders around Michigan and Wisconsin.

Nevaeh Clement has two horses staying at the farm.

She says Kids’ Night Out gives her a chance to meet new people.

“I think it’s cool that there’s different people here, and that there’s not like certain people that can only be here,” Clement said. “I like that it’s an open place, and you can meet a bunch of new people.”

Kids’ Night Out was conceived in 2022 by barn owner Natasha Cronick.

Cronick has shown horses professionally for almost 30 years and sees Kids’ Night Out as a chance to educate youth on what it takes to care for a horse.

She says an agriculture education can be a special experience for children.

“Keeping your kids involved in 4H and livestock is just really something that every kid should try to experience,” Cronick said. “So, I’m grateful that the parents keep sending their kids to Kids’ Night Out.”
