More than a dozen juveniles were treated for shortness of breath or lung irritation Monday afternoon after exposure to chlorine at a private pool located in Livermore, the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department said.
Three of the patients were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries and the remaining 10 were released to their parents and guardians on-scene, following assessment by first responders, department spokesperson Rosa Ramos said. The cause of the chlorine release at The Club @ Livermore — formerly known as the Livermore Valley Tennis Club — is under investigation.
The Club declined to comment on the incident.
At 4:36 p.m. on Monday, the fire department and Falck ambulances were dispatched to a medical assist call to The Club at 2000 Arroyo Road.
Upon arrival, the LPFD said one patient was in need of medical assistance.
“While treating the patient, several other occupants reported medical complaints,” Ramos told Livermore Vine.
Suspecting a chlorine release in the pool area, the engine captain requested additional resources to the incident.
In total, three engines, one truck company, one hazardous materials team, two battalion chiefs, an EMS supervisor and five ambulances responded to the incident.
