TOLEDO, Ohio (WKRC) – An Ohio couple was taken into custody after five children were found in “conditions unfitting for human habitation.”
According to Newsbreak, 37-year-old Joseph Plaff and 35-year-old Tiffany Douglas were taken into custody following a welfare check on two toddlers who were reportedly being neglected.
The outlet reported that authorities responded to a home on Lewis Avenue in Toledo, Ohio at approximately 11 a.m. on Friday. Upon arriving on the scene, police discovered the children unsupervised, with the home’s condition deemed “unfitting for human habitation,” per Newsbreak.
According to the outlet, the children involved ranged in age from toddlers to school-age.
Plaff and Douglas were taken into custody and charged with Endangering Children (1st degree misdemeanor), per Newsbreak.
The outlet reported that Douglas was also charged with Possession of Controlled Substance – Cocaine and Possession of a Schedule l or ll Substance after police say she was found with small bags of cocaine and fentanyl.
Plaff pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday and both were released that same day on their own recognizance, the outlet reported.
The children were placed in the custody of Children Services, per Newsbreak.
