Group launches food drive, as protests continue in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – People who oppose ongoing cuts to federal programs and services continue their protests in Roanoke.

Monday afternoon, they also introduced a new way they hope to make an impact in western Virginia.

More than 200 people gathered in Elmwood Park for the midday rally opposing a range of recent actions by the Trump administration.

A group called ‘Do Good Virginia’ has organized a food drive that will be part of the weekly event.

Libba Wolfe came up with the idea.

“Everybody is just so anxious to do something,” Wolfe told WDBJ7. “And we already know that one in four kids in Roanoke is hungry. Funds are being cut. Social services are on the edge. It’s easy to bring food.”

Food items collected Monday afternoon were donated to the Presbyterian Community Center in southeast Roanoke.
