The Property Brothers are a familiar name to any adult who enjoys reality TV about flipping houses. Starring Drew and Jonathan Scott, the show revolves around helping families buy a house; the pair then renovates it, taking it from a fixer-upper to the house of the family’s dreams.
The brothers are all about dreaming big, which is why they decided to bring their core values—working together, solving problems, embracing their imaginations, and helping others—to the world of children’s entertainment. First, it was with two children’s books, Builder Brothers: Big Plans and Builder Brothers: Better Together. And now, they’re ready to debut their all-new kids’ show in the United States.
What Is Builder Brothers Dream Factory All About?
Airing on YouTube, Builder Brothers Dream Factory centers on two brothers (of course) and their friends—known as the Factory Crew—who help people in their neighborhood solve problems. The premise of the show is inspired by Jonathan and Drew’s own childhood.
“We were always coming up with out-of-the-box-ideas, and Jonathan and I would drag our friends into it, too,” Drew tells Parents. “We’d think up interesting ways to solve problems. Our dad used to say, ‘If someone says it can’t be done, figure out 5 ways to do it.’ That really motivated us and felt like a lesson we wanted to share.”
What Inspired Drew and Jonathan to Create Builder Brothers Dream Factory?
Drew credits his parents with encouraging him and his brother to nurture their creativity and use their imaginations—and now they want to pass that message on to other kids, including their own.
“Our parents always gave us the freedom to chase our ideas, no matter how wacky or over-the-top they were. And now that we’re dads, we realize even more how vital it is to encourage a sense of creativity at a young age,” Drew says.
What Will Kids Learn from Builder Brothers Dream Factory?
According to Jonathan, both he and his brothers “are still kids at heart,”—but they’re also both parents now, too. That means that they were very intentional about the themes that they wanted the show to cover.
For starters, “Each character has their own special skill and personality, too, which reminds kids that they all have something to bring to the table,” says Jonathan. “It also shows how differences can make a team even stronger.”
In each episode, the friends bring those skills together to overcome a new challenge as a team. “So it reinforces that theme of not letting problems hold you back, but instead to use them as an opportunity to come up with a creative solution,” adds Drew.
If that message sounds appealing to parents who are looking for a new show to add to their kids’ rotation, they should know it’s especially great for kids who enjoy building with random materials they find around the house, from blocks and magnetic tiles to cardboard boxes.
Episodes often feature the Factory Crew putting their heads together to design and build some kind of structure or vehicle, like a bird house or a race car. In that way, its almost a STEM-focused show, introducing kids to the basics of construction and engineering.
Why Will Parents Want Their Kids to Watch Builder Brothers Dream Factory?
Jonathan says that the goal of the show is to “weave in educational moments while still being action-packed, silly, and genuinely fun to watch.” Like all the most popular kids’ shows, it aims to capture your child’s attention and teach them something along the way. And when screen time is over, ideally, your little one will hop off the couch inspired to start a creative building project of their own.
“When we do watch TV as a family, we want it to be something like Builder Brothers that teaches them positive lessons and gets their little wheels turning,” adds Drew. “They find this show way more entertaining than watching Uncle Jonathan and me sledgehammer a wall. Can’t imagine why.”
All episodes of Builder Brothers Dream Factory are available to stream on YouTube right now, with the channel refreshed every week with at least five new videos.
