Residents speak to WITN after two kids hurt in Greenville shooting

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Some Greenville residents say they’re concerned after police in Greenville are investigating an early morning shooting that left two children injured.

Saturday morning around 2:30, officers with the Greenville Police Department went to 900A Masters Lane for a report of shots fired.

When police arrived, they found a 7-year-old boy inside an apartment who had been shot in the ankle. Police say they also found a 12-year-old boy who suffered a graze wound from a bullet.

The 7-year-old was taken to the hospital, and EMS treated the 12-year-old at the scene. Police say no other injuries were reported, and no damage was found at surrounding apartments.

Some residents that WITN spoke to say they were woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of the gunshots.

Currently, information is limited regarding who the suspects are or a possible motive.

Other residents that WITN spoke to say the neighborhood is normally quiet and this shooting scared them and their family.

“I didn’t get involved in it, but it was very shocking to hear something like that at that time. I was just like, what is going on. Like I said, I was just too scared to look out the window. I really wanted to look so bad just to see if I could see what was going on, but I was just too scared,” said Rida Ward, who lives nearby.

In a statement, Interim Chief of Police Richard Tyndall addressed the shooting that happened this morning.

“This was a senseless act of violence that endangered innocent children in the safety of their own home,” said Tyndall.

The investigation is ongoing.
