In January, Blue Ridge Beef recalled 5,700 pounds of its Natural Mix due to Salmonella contamination. Earlier that month, the company recalled 1,350 pounds of its Kitten Mix for the same reason.

In December 2024, Blue Ridge Beef announced that 2-pound packages of its Puppy Mix product were being recalled due to Salmonella contamination.

Salmonella contamination poses risks to both pets and humans. Salmonella can cause serious illness in pets, including symptoms like diarrhea, fever, vomiting and lethargy. Some infected pets may appear healthy but can still transmit the bacteria to humans or other animals. For humans, handling the contaminated product can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramping. In rare cases, it may cause more severe health conditions like arterial infections or arthritis.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase or destroy the food in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access. Do not sell or donate the recalled products. Do not feed the recalled product to pets or any other animals. Wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers. Always ensure you wash and sanitize your hands after handling recalled food or any utensils that come in contact with recalled food.
