Cass County’s ‘Meet Your Hero Day’ connects kids with local first responders

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Circle Credit Union to host “Meet Your Hero Day!”

From 11 AM to 1 PM, children had the opportunity to meet and interact with local police officers, firefighters, and paramedics.

Attendees could explore police cars and fire trucks, and there was even a special visit from Sitka, Cass County’s new police dog.

For parents, child ID kits were available, along with a chance to have their child’s fingerprints taken.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jeff Johnson said the event aims to help children feel more comfortable with local law enforcement and first responders.

“If they get into that crisis situation and an officer or a fireman or ambulance person shows up, they can be a little more comfortable, you know, knowing that, hey, I met somebody just like them, and they were nice, and we got to talk. And, you know, it just helps, helps people in those crisis situations,” said Captain Jeff Johnson.

Around 75 children made it to the event.

Circle Credit Union is hoping to make this an annual event.
