A new entry in the Mafia series is on the way, as we found out last year when Mafia: The Old Country was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and subsequently expanded upon at The Game Awards 2024. Now, despite the lack of a truly official announcement about the game’s release date, we know exactly when it’s coming.
Now-edited blog posts on the game’s various Steam pages seemingly revealed that Mafia: The Old Country will be released on August 8, 2025. As reported by Gematsu, the LATAM and Japanese posts both featured the line “Mafia: The Old Country will be available on August 8, 2025,” which the publication speculated was intended to be added after a PAX East 2025 developer panel set to take place later this year, which is set to feature a new trailer for the game.
Mafia: The Old Country is a set further in the past compared to other games in the series, and is based on the origins of the Mafia. It follows new character Enzo Favara in 1900s Sicily, who escapes indentured labor as a youth to join the Torrisi crime family.

It’s being developed by Hangar 13, which previously developed games in the series starting with Mafia 3, and published by 2K, Hangar 13’s parent company and the developer of the first two games in the series.
An August release makes sense, as it would likely put Mafia: The Old Country a few months before the release of GTA 6, which is set to be released in late 2026 and will be published by Rockstar Games, itself owned by 2K’s parent company Take-Two Interactive. GTA 6 is expected to be the biggest game of the year, with multiple publishers reportedly delaying announcements of their games’ release dates to avoid it.
Mafia: The Old Country is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
