Belfast is set to welcome Cheeky Food Truck Park, which will offer local and diverse cuisine starting on May 24.
BELFAST, Maine — Over the past few years, the food truck scene has been booming in cities like Portland and Bangor. Belfast is the latest community to get its own food truck park.
Cheeky Food Truck Park, formerly the Coastal Bites Food Truck Park site on Route 1, will open this summer and hopes to increase the visibility of small businesses.
“Encouraging more of the use of the property is exciting to me,” Kristine Wentworth, the owner of Cheeky Food Truck Park, said.
Wentworth’s family business, Wentworth Event Center, was destroyed in a fire in 2023, but that same property will serve a new purpose less than two years later.
“Cheeky Food Truck Park is me bringing it back to the community in a way that folks can come and visit and enjoy the space and the view and eat good food,” Wentworth said.
A couple of food trucks have already committed, and the park can host up to five food trucks at a time. The goal is to have at least two food trucks daily throughout the summer.
“I really love this particular idea—bringing the food trucks in—because the food trucks are often entrepreneurial new businesses that are trying to launch their business as well,” Wentworth explained.
Crepe Elizabeth, a French creperie food truck, is one of those businesses coming to the park this summer.
“I think this is going to be great because we’re right here on the main road. Anybody driving by is going to see us,” Dawn Miller, the owner of Crepe Elizabeth, said. “Getting some of us to come from different places, I think, is going to be really great for the community.”
Dorothy Havey, executive director of the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce, believes the food truck park will fill a need in the city.
“I don’t know of another food truck park in the midcoast area,” Havey said.
Bryce Seekins works at Viking Lumber, right down the road from the food truck park, and is looking forward to having more food options nearby.
“It’s hard to get into town to get lunch, and you only get a certain time for lunch, so it would be great to have a place next door basically to do that,” Seekins said.
Cheeky Food Truck Park is planning to open May 24, on Memorial Day Weekend, and run through October.
