Nearly 1,600 Cases of Celery Sticks Recalled for Potential Listeria Contamination
On April 10, Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. voluntarily issued a precautionary advisory for one batch of washed, ready-to-eat celery sticks. The vegetable may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Georgia Department of Agriculture sampled the product at a Georgia location, where one of many samples yielded a positive test result.
Consuming Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, potentially fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) stated in a release about the advisory. It can also cause stillbirths and miscarriages in pregnant people. For the average person, Listeria can cause fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Simply Recipes / Cabot
Cabot Creamery Butter Recalled for Bacterial Contamination
On April 9, Cabot Creamery released a statement saying its supplier, Agri-Mark Inc., would be voluntarily recalling about 1,700 pounds of butter (a single lot) after product testing revealed an elevated level of coliform bacteria (like E. coli). This bacteria is often found in the digestive tracts of humans and livestock, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It also exists in soil, on plants, and in lakes or rivers.
“Agri-Mark has identified the cause and has taken the appropriate internal actions to address it. No other products were affected. Agri-Mark is dedicated to food safety and producing quality products and is always monitoring its products for compliance,” the statement reads.
The FDA classified this recall as Class III, meaning it’s not likely to cause adverse health effects. This is likely due to the efforts of Agri-Mark, which recovered 99.5 percent of the recalled product before it was sold to consumers.
