The Spring sports season is starting to heat up

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Lacrosse, baseball, and Red & Black Hall of Fame news were on the radar Thursday night.

Boys Frontier League lacrosse from Dexter, General Brown hosting Watertown.

1st quarter Nico Spaziani unloads a rocket that splits the pipes, Cyclones up 1-nothing.

Lions tie it up when Lucas Dupee dents the back of the net, knotting the score at 1.

Watertown regains the lead when Spaziani scores his 2nd of the game, 2-1 Cyclones.

Then it’s Nick Netto with some nice moves in front for the tally, 3-1 Watertown.

Kage Loftus fights off defenders for the goal.

Watertown beats General Brown 16-9.

Boys NAC lacrosse, St. Lawrence Central hosting Canton.

On the inside attack, Hayden Towle scores in close. 1-0 Bears.

Colden Francey with a sidewinder gives Canton a 2-0 lead. Francie produced four goals and two assists.

Ayrassian connects with Towle for another goal.

Canton beats St. Lawrence Central 12-4.

Panthers would go on to score five runs in the first inning, without the benefit of a hit.

The big blow came in the second inning, bases loaded, when Gage Caskinett barrels up and goes shopping at the left-centerfield gap to knock three runs. PH up 8-0.

Murray nets two more RBIs for the Panthers.

Parishville Hopkinton beats St. Lawrence Central 16-1.

College baseball from JCC, the Cannoneers hosting Broome in a doubleheader.

Game 1..Braiden Bley singles to right field, plating Ryan Murnane from 2nd, Cannoneers on top 1-nothing.

Top 2, JCC starter Mekhi Smithwick gets the strikeout to end the inning.

JCC loses game 1, 8-7, but beats Broome in game 2, 11-2.

13 new members will be joining the Watertown Red and Black Hall of Fame this year.

Getting the call this year are James “Jim” Anastasia, Buddy Bazinett, James “Jim” Branski, Billy Gaige, Vaughn “Gator” Kriner, Abel Lynch, Dave Recor, Joe Brennon, Phil Draper, Nunzio Doldo, Willie “Bill’ Varno, and Maurice “Mo” Pfister.

The induction dinner is tentatively slated for sometime in late June.

New names are joining over 130 people currently enshrined in the R and B Hall of Fame.

“We have a whole long group of people that need to be considered in the past before we can get new people in. We’re trying to set up a program where we get some new people in with some of the old people,” said Tom LaDuke.

“It is a lot of work, believe it or not. Especially when you get into the older group, try to find some information as to what they did back in that era,” said John Morgia.
