It’s the last weekend to catch Western Reserve Playhouse’s production of “The Shark is Broken,” a comedic play about the making of “Jaws.” The show offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the famous film by exploring the sometimes strained and always funny relationships between the cast. The show runs Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25.
Help spruce up an Akron neighborhood Saturday at the Merriman Valley Gateway Cleanup, hosted by Preserve the Valley. Volunteers will meet at Blimp City Bike & Hike at 8:30 a.m. and will be directed to assigned cleanup areas. Trash and recycling bags, along with snacks and water, will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to wear gloves and reflective clothing. The event will end at 11 a.m.
Youngsters are invited to cast a line Sunday at Summit Metro Parks’ Kids’ Fishing Derby. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Firestone Metro Park and is open to children 15 years and younger. Participants will receive a $1 prize if they catch a tagged fish. Anglers who catch the three largest fish will receive trophies. Those who have fishing gear should plan to bring it. Bait will be provided, as well as a limited number of reels and rods. On Tuesday, Summit Metro Parks will host a Special Needs Fishing Derby that is open to adults and children.
