STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Council of Jewish Organizations of Staten Island held its 50th Annual pre-Passover food distribution on April 2.
The event took place at Aur Torah Sephardic Minyan in New Springville and was led by the organization’s food pantry and Social Services Director, Iva Reuven.
Public officials, civic and community leaders, and law enforcement joined forces to ensure a meaningful Passover celebration for all, as hundreds of families gathered and were provided with essential holiday foods.
The event was sponsored by the Met Council, which played a pivotal role in this year’s success. The organization’s President, Mendy Mirocznik, praised Met Council’s efforts.
“They are truly the gold standard in fighting poverty in the Jewish community throughout the city. We at COJO look forward to continuing to expand this relationship and ending hunger and food insecurity in Staten Island,” said Mirocznik.

Mirocznik further thanked Aur Torah Sephardic Minyan Rabbi Aharon Zeev, President Oshri Reuven, and the Aur Torah congregational family for adopting the organization’s pantry as a mitzvah project.
“It is thanks to the support and generosity of Aur Torah in hosting the pantry that we are able to meet the goals of the pantry in supporting the community,” said Mirocznik.
Mirocznik extended his gratitude to the organization’s security chairman and Staten Island Shomrim Coordinator Ari Weiss, who played a key role in organizing the Passover distribution alongside the NYPD, who ensured a safe and seamless operation.

The organization also recognized the sponsorship and participation of Project Hospitality, the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and many more.
