FLINT, MI — Beats will continue to flow on Memorial Day weekend as a popular event will return to Flint.
Beats X BBQ will return for its sixth year, bringing people together for quality music, incredible food and numerous vendors.
“We’re seeing something that I have never seen before at Beats X BBQ. I’ve never seen this variety of people — from kids all the way to elders and senior citizens, everyone is coming out, said Brandon Corder, founder of Beats X Beers. “No matter the age, I’ve had so many people tell me how much they enjoy the event.
“Creating that space and opportunity for families to attend is important to me. It’s not just for adults. Kids come out and really enjoy it. They roam, play, eat and get a lot of energy out. You can spend the holiday with your entire family.”
Corder said he expects the event to come back stronger than ever while maintaining its core value — building a sense of community.
Before this event, Flint felt like a ghost town on Memorial Day weekend, and this premier event has quickly become an annual staple, Corder said.
“Prior to us starting this now annual Memorial Day Weekend event, there was nothing going on in town — literally nothing that weekend every year. I knew we had to change that,” Corder said. “Everyone would just go out of town. And now we have created something for people to look forward to … the community, the creating a staple that people can look forward to, and that people inquire about it all the time.
“I look forward to providing something that gives us all a sense of community in Flint that didn’t exist prior. Memorial Day weekend was a ghost town before, and for people who may not be able to afford to go out of town, but you still want to get out and do something with family and friends — this was built for all of us staying home in Flint.”
Mark your calendars, as the time and date of the event have been slated from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 25, taking over the entire parking lot at Tenacity Brewing, located at 119 N. Grand Traverse St. in Flint.
The event will follow suite with a lineup of DJs slinging hour-long sets, building the atmosphere for hundreds to feel the vibe and dance. The DJ lineup is still being built and will be released at a later date.
Corder said having the best lineup of DJs is something he prides himself on with this event.
“They give their all in that time they have. They don’t want to be the DJ whose lacking, so it puts the pressure on them,” he said. “They bring it every time. It becomes friendly competition with each DJ bringing their own style to the stage to standout.”
The event is also known for hosting a number of vendors of all sorts of wares and good, as well as numerous food trucks. For vendors looking to join the event, you can fill out the application here.
“This is something I’m passionate about, I put my all into it, especially once it’s out there and we’re rolling,” Corder said. “I always want people to have the best experience they can possibly have. I always look for different ways we can enhance it all too. From the customer to the vendor and every moving piece, I want it to be the best experience.”
Corder said said his aim is for this to be an extra community -friendly event with an affordable price.
Ticket prices will vary. Early bird tickets are available now online for $10, and will gradually increase by tier the closer the date to the event.
Kids ages 12 and under can attend for free.
Tickets can be purchased here.
Corder said it’s one of the first outside events every year where people are chasing BBQ cravings, and it sets the tone for warmer weather and summertime vibes ahead.
“It’s all just that sense of community. What keeps me going is the people that look forward to it, the people that know the history of it and they just can’t wait for it every year,” Corder said. “I feel like I’d be taking a staple away.”
