
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In today’s world, screens and social media are everywhere.
Our kids are growing up in a digital-first culture, and while technology has benefits, the dangers are real.
“For example, in a locker room, a middle school girl was recorded while changing and shared broadly,” said Champions for Childhood board member Tressa Majka. “There was a girl who thought she started to date someone online thought she had a boyfriend and she was going to meet him and turned out to be a fifty year old man actually planning to traffic her this is happening right here in our community.”
I discussed the dangers and consequences of screen based childhoods with Majka, who’s part of a local organization that helps parents come together and support each other to create a balanced digital environment for kids.
