A 5K and Kids Fun Run, geared to raise money for the ongoing construction of a memorial splash pad honoring Lillee Rae Bronson’s memory, will be held May 10 starting at the Savona Village Park.

Packet pickup at the May 10 event begins at 8:30 a.m., the 5K begins at 9:30 a.m., and the kids fun run begins at 10:30 a.m.

Lillee Rae Bronson was a Campbell-Savona first grader who fought bone cancer for 19 months. She could usually be seen with a smile, despite the diagnosis. She died July 27, 2022, but her legacy lives on. “Lillee’s Pad,” a 1,200 square foot splash pad, is currently under construction at Savona Village Park by BOCES students.

“The 5K is going to help raise money to build the splash pad,” said Brian McDonnell, teacher at BOCES Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology. “We’re starting the signups for the 5K event. We are not sure how many people will take part in the event but we are shooting for 100 to 150 people.”

Mike Fodge, Heavy Equipment Instructor at Cooper BOCES, said Lillee’s Pad, built by GST BOCES Coopers Campus SkillsUSA students, will benefit all who visit the Savona Village Park.

Participants of the 5K and Kids Fun Run will receive a finishers medal. The winning male and female will receive an additional award.

An event t-shirt in kids and adult sizes can also be purchased during online registration to further support the cause.

This event is hosted by GST BOCES Coopers Campus SkillsUSA in collaboration with local business and industry partners.

Fodge said day-to-day, anywhere from 10-30 students are working on the Lillee’s Pad project. Throughout the project anywhere from 200-400 students will take part in the work.

The project has been supported by community fundraisers, and it has received grant funding, including $10,000 from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, an $8,000 grant from Corning Inc., and a $25,000 grant from local Architectual Concrete Plus and Custom Mix Concrete.
