UW-Eau Claire pickleball tournament helping raise money for kids with cancer

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Students at UW-Eau Claire are using their love for pickleball to help kids with cancer by hosting a pickleball tournament.

Pickleball was created nearly 60 years ago and has been gaining popularity, including on campus. With renewed interest in the sport, the UW-Eau Claire Pinky Swear Pack and pickleball club invite you to explore a new recreational activity while supporting a good cause.

Members of the clubs are hosting a pickleball tournament on Sunday, April 13. Players will play in doubles, and tickets are $10 a team or $5 a player. The proceeds from the team entry fees will go towards the Pinky Swear Pack, a non-profit that emotionally and financially supports kids with cancer and their families.

“I have been honored to see the work that they do firsthand and even speak to some of the children and their families that they serve,” Audrey Raeker, the UWEC Pinky Swear Pack President, said. “It’s a really good organization, so I’m excited. I always feel honored to give back to the foundation in any way I can, and I think this pickleball tournament would be a really good way to see the local community and students come together.”

The tournament also features a raffle for a chance to win $100 gamma pickleball paddles. It will run from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the McPhee Center. Teams or players must sign up by Saturday, April 12th. People can sign up by clicking this link, which will take you to their Instagram page.
