
MORTON (25News Now) – Midwest Food Bank is upping its disaster response after a new wave of severe weather tears through the southern United States.
Thousands of food boxes, hygiene kits and cleanup buckets are going to those affected by flash flooding and tornadoes.
“These back-to-back events show how quickly lives can be turned upside down,” said Lisa Martin, Chief Financial Officer at Midwest Food Bank. “When homes are underwater or roads are impassable, our food boxes and hygiene kits provide more than just essentials — they deliver comfort, hope, and a first step toward recovery.”
Currently, the Midwest Food Bank is responding to the following:
- Texas (April 2025 Flash Flood Emergency)
- 1,900 family food boxes
- 900 cleanup buckets
- 900 hygiene kits
- 30,000+ pounds of food and supplies
- Ongoing response focused on flood-affected areas in northeast Texas including Texarkana
- Michigan (Record-Breaking Rainfall April 2–4)
- 1,000 food boxes distributed
- Targeting affected areas in Detroit, Dearborn Heights, and Flint where residents experienced flooded roadways, stranded vehicles, and property damage
- Kentucky & Tennessee (Severe Storms and Tornadoes April 2–Present)
- New shipments of food and cleanup kits currently in production and preparing to deploy
