CORNELIUS, Ore. (KATU) — Three children and a woman were found dead at a Cornelius home Tuesday afternoon, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s office spokesperson Deputy David Huey said someone called police at about 3 p.m. That person had found the four people dead at the home in the 300 block of North 15th Avenue, which is next to Cornelius Elementary School.
He said the bodies were found in a building attached to the home.
He said the children were all under 13 years of age but did not provide more details, except to confirm that two of the children went Cornelius Elementary School.
“This is a pretty tragic event,” a visibly shaken Huey said during a media briefing at the scene. “This is a small community between Cornelius and North Plains, and it’s going to hit them hard.”
How the four people died has not yet been determined.
Huey said the sheriff’s office was not discussing any relationship between the children and the woman.
No arrests have been made, and there was no known risk to the public, he said.
“The indications we have so far is this was an isolated incident,” Huey said.
As more information becomes available, this story will be updated.
