MATTYDALE, N.Y. — A new veterans food pantry is opening at the Mattydale VFW, aiming to address the Central New York veteran population struggling with food insecurity.
Nationwide, one-in-nine working age-veterans worry about where their next meal will come from, according to Feeding America.
The patriot’s pantry will operate out of the Mattydale VFW on Lemoyne Avenue in Mattydale.
“We knew there was a need,” VFW Post 3146 Auxiliary President, Lisa Duncan said. “We oftentimes have veterans call to post and say can you please help me I need food, we’ve determined that the need is bigger than one to two veterans in this area.”
The pantry is open on Monday from 4-6 p.m. It is also taking donations of non-perishable items.
