Russell Martin left Southampton in December and his successor Ivan Juric’s spell in charge came to an end just 107 days after it began.

Keeping the Saints in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship was already looking a tough ask during Martin’s reign, so it was always set to be a difficult job for Juric.

With Southampton setting a record for the earliest confirmed relegation from the Premier League at the weekend and Juric’s departure announced on Monday, it has led some to ask whether they should have sacked Martin in the first place.
