Hugh Grant has publicly criticized an immigration officer at London’s Heathrow airport after an unpleasant encounter.
Writing in a post on X, Grant, 64, shared that he was traveling with his wife, Anna Eberstein, and their kids, all of whom have the same last name — Grant — on their passports.
“Immigration officer engages my children in chit chat then whispers to them ‘Are these your Mom and Dad?” Grant wrote, calling the question “intrusive, insulting creepy.”
Grant and Eberstein are parents of daughters Lulu, 9, and Blue, 6, and son John, 12. The actor is also the father of Tabitha, 13, and Felix, 11, from his previous relationship with Tinglan Hong.
According to a post on the U.K. government’s website, Border Force is dedicated to protecting individuals who may be at risk of trafficking, particularly children. If a person is traveling with a minor who isn’t their parent or doesn’t appear to be, they may be asked a few questions to verify their relationship.
TODAY.com reached out to Home Office, the government department for responsible immigration and passports, for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
Grant is private about his personal life, especially concerning his five children. However, last year, he revealed the story behind Lulu’s unique middle name: Danger.
“We thought it might be nice for her when she was older if she could say in bars that her middle name was Danger. So her name is Lulu Danger Grant,” he said during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in 2024.
Grant explained that the name is a nod to the iconic line — “Danger’s my middle name” — from “Austin Powers.”
He also shared the back story of his daughter Blue’s name, revealing that his son John played a key role in the decision.
“He said, ‘Kevin,’ because that was his favorite minion,” Grant recalled. “We did think about calling her Kevin. But then we said, ‘You better think of something else,’ and he said Blue because it’s his favorite color.”
