MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WFSB) – Running for a cause in Middletown on Sunday morning.
More than 1,200 runners are helping fight food insecurity taking off from High Street.
Runners in the Middletown 10K and 5K complete a course that ends at Union Green.
Organized by the Hartford Marathon Foundation, they encouraged runners to bring non-perishable food donations.
Cans and boxes of food all go to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry to help alleviate food insecurity, but another important group is raising awareness too.
Hundreds of participants are representing Gilead Community Service, who help individuals and families with mental health needs across Middlesex County.
“Since the inception of this race 10 years ago, we’ve been partnering with them,” said Hartford Marathon Foundation President Josh Miller. “It’s just an amazing partnership that they can raise funds, gather supporters, and just be in one place, celebrate together. They have over 300 participants taking part today, and this is one of their biggest annual fundraisers.”
About one in every four runners represented Team Gilead.
