CHAPMAN, Neb. (KSNB) – Chapman Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department partnered with Hope Harbor for a food drive on Sunday.
The volunteer firefighters of Chapman all gathered outside of Chapman Community Center for Hope Harbor – a non-profit organization with mission to “help and hope for a life of self-sufficiency.”
Thea Edmunds, rescue captain for Chapman Fire & Rescue and organizer of the food drive, said they wanted to host the event because they saw Hope Harbor post on social media, that they were short on their food pantry and donations.
“I opened up our donations to the community because our community has been so good to us,” said Edmunds. “So we just wanted to pay it forward.”
Edmunds added she was pleased with how the food drive went.
“We got non-expiring and non-perishables donated to us,” said Edmunds. “Hopefully I can fit it all in my car.”
Linda Johnson, secretary for Chapman Fire and Rescue Auxiliary, said it’s important to give back to your community.
“We never know how they’re feeling or what they’re doing in life,” said Johnson. “We were actually just talking earlier, even with the firefighters we still need people to help and everything else, somebody’s [has] to be somebody’s hero.“
