Samoa Joe Reveals His Video Game Voice-Over Roles You Might Not Know About

Samoa Joe is one of the top professional wrestlers in the world. He’s also building up a great resume in television and video games, too.

Throughout his career, Joe has tested his luck in multiple roles such as a wrestler, commentator, and also an enforcer. Outside the realm of professional wrestling, he has acted in films and television series. He’s also voiced for multiple characters in video games. While speaking to Chris Van Vliet on his Insight Podcast, Samoa Joe shared some of the video games that people may not know that he had provided voice-overs for.

“I currently… So, the Game of Thrones video game, I played a gladiator from Meereen called the Beast. Currently, for Valve Software for… It’s a mobile-hybrid First-person shooter [in development] called Deadlock. I play the character named Abrams. Obviously, Raymond Law in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. And a few new ones coming up here soon. I can’t say anything about them,” Joe noted.

Samoa Joe also portrayed Juggernaut in two Dota games, as well as Nanaue / King Shark in 2024’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Joe also shared that he tries out a variation of voice tones depending on each character in each video game.

“[I am doing] variations [of my voices]. There’s the monster voice which is very guttural and stuff like that. The Raymond Law voice is very dastardly. Yeah. It’s very like, old-west Cowboy. I spit too much tobacco.”

Samoa Joe says that he never planned to become a voice actor

The former AEW World Heavyweight Champion also shared that he enjoys voice acting.

“Yeah [I am planting seeds for life after wrestling]. And it’s just, I enjoy the work. It’s fun. I love video games. So, getting an opportunity to kind of like bring them to life is really really cool for me. So, I’m enjoying it.”

Samoa Joe also shared that he never had any plans to be a voice actor but rather it just worked out well.

“[There was no plan to do voice acting] It just fell into my lap. No ambition or need. I think the voice acting roles actually started out… I did TNA Video Games and did voice-over work for that. And at the time, the Midway VO guy was like, ‘Man, you’re really good. You should do this.’ And I was like ‘Oh! Cool.’ And then, lo and behold, I think he worked on the Game of Thrones game, invited me to do that. And then, by then like kind of word to mouth, producers were getting kind of hints of what I could do and then the work started rolling in,” Samoa Joe said.

Samoa Joe will return as Sweet Tooth in season two of Twisted Metal on Peacock this summer.
