Kirtland Community College hosts second food drive of the year, aiding 177 households

CRAWFOD COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — Kirtland Community College, in collaboration with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, hosted its second food drive of the year, providing essential groceries to 177 households.

The event marked the college’s second year of food distribution, but it was the first time they organized two events within a single academic year.

Kirtland staff, students, and volunteers dedicated their day to packing boxes with a variety of items, including cereal, milk, meat, fruits, and vegetables.

Alex Murphy, a student success coach at Kirtland, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. “I just love getting to touch base with the community. You know, being able to help them with a need that is clearly there for everybody and just being able to support in a way and they support us back and it’s wonderful to be apart of,” said Murphy.

Murphy noted that the food distribution drive was not limited to county residents, welcoming anyone in need to receive assistance.
