Miss Ann’s kitchen brings soul food and smiles to State Fairgrounds

The State Fairgrounds has welcomed a new culinary delight with the grand opening of Miss Ann’s Kitchen. The opening of Miss Ann’s Kitchen also marks the first time the venue has leased space to a local business outside of the State Fair.

Lines wrapped around the fairgrounds as eager patrons gathered to sample the homemade soul food that Miss Ann has been perfecting for 40 years. Fred Allen, a guest at the opening, said, “This is a grand opening for Miss Ann’s Kitchen. She’s been in business for 40 years, and this weekend, Friday through Sunday, she’s going to have a special $12 one-entree, two sides. Everything here is homemade, homemade cooking, good soul food cooking.”

Allen emphasized the significance of this venture, saying, “This is the first time that’s ever happened here in this building. She’s the first one to lease this building. I think it’s very good for her. It’s good for the community.”

Miss Ann’s menu boasts eight different types of meat, entrees, sides, and homemade desserts. When asked about his favorite dish, Allen said, “Everything, absolutely everything,” but admitted to enjoying the southern grilled pork chops that day.

The opening also featured live entertainment, with local artist Mac Royals performing. Allen highlighted the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs, saying, “It’s important that we support her business, not just for her, but for African Americans in general, just the communities in general.”

Miss Ann’s Kitchen is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a taste of home-cooked goodness at the State Fairgrounds.
