Two Maine restaurants named by Food & Wine among the world’s best

Food & Wine magazine recently included Mr. Tuna in Portland and Aragosta at Goose Cove in Deer Isle on their list of the 165 top culinary destinations in the world.

This is Aragosta’s second time on the magazine’s “Global Tastemakers” list. Last year, the fine dining restaurant was named to its “Top 20 Restaurants in the U.S.” subcategory. This year, Aragosta was named to the subcategory of “Top 10 U.S. Hotels for Food and Drink.” Other New England venues in the category were Ocean House in Westerly, Rhode Island, and Twin Farms in Barnard, Vermont.

“Tourists may flock to Bar Harbor during Maine’s warmer months, but in-the-know culinary adventurers make their way to Deer Isle in the Acadian region, about an hour south,” the writeup reads in part. “There, the standout Aragosta on the island’s western shore sits on 21 pristine acres, with coastal panoramic views. Chef Devin Finigan takes full advantage of the region’s bounty, blending in notable international influences while ensuring every plate features Maine ingredients.”

Mr. Tuna was named to the Tastemakers’ “Top 15 U.S. Restaurants” subcategory. The Portland sushi restaurant is the only New England venue of the 15.

“Mr. Tuna, also known as chef Jordan Rubin, along with Mrs. Tuna, his wife and partner, Marisa Lewiecki, kickstarted a sushi cart in 2017, and finally opened a dedicated brick and mortar location in 2024,” the piece states in part. “Rubin’s into local Atlantic bluefin tuna, as in those epic 500-pound fish, which he breaks down and serves most of the year. Sushi fans come to Mr. Tuna for the hand rolls and espresso Martinis, but our restaurant editor recommends the tuna sashimi tasting as one of the best dishes he ate all year.”
