Teen allegedly accidentally shot friend in head while smoking, playing video games

CASPER, Wyoming (WKRC) – A teenager was arrested after he allegedly accidentally shot his friend in the head while the pair were playing video games and smoking marijuana.

According to court documents obtained by Law&Crime, 18-year-old Luka Wade Rasmussen was playing video games with his friend, 16-year-old Riley Jacob Sears, on Feb. 12 while smoking marijuana. At some point during the hangout, Rasmussen allegedly pulled out a gun and placed it on his thigh and it fired, shooting Sears in the head.

Prosecutors allegedly refuted this claim by presenting two different photos of Rasmussen pointing the gun a teenage witness on two different dates, with one of the images being taken just two days before the shooting, per Cowboy State Daily.

According to police, Rasmussen ran outside through the back door after the shooting and threw the gun behind a shed, which is where police found the weapon.

Although Rasmussen’s coworkers wrote a letter attesting to his character, prosecutors alluded that one of the three guns found at the teenager’s house was reported stolen in 2024.
