RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -Richmond Police say a 2-year-old was shot in the Fan Tuesday night. The toddler is expected to survive, and officers are not looking for a suspect.
Officers were called to the 1900 block of West Main Street around 9:15 p.m. 12 On Your Side was at the scene shortly after. Police mainly investigated a parking lot next to an ABC store and a Family Dollar.
Witnesses say they heard an argument before the shots and believe whoever fired the gun knew the 2-year-old victim, saying they came to the lot all together.
The witness said they heard a ‘pow,’ but thought it was a car crash at first. He says people ran into the Family Dollar for safety, and a woman yelled about her baby being shot.
The witness says a man who was not involved in the shooting rushed over to help. The toddler was allegedly put on the ground to make sure it was okay.
Police said the group went to the hospital in their car, and the toddler’s injuries were not life-threatening.
The incident happened just hours before a 15-year-old was shot in the city’s southside.
Around 11:15 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of East 11th Street. When they got there, they found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to live.
Police do not have a motive or a suspect in custody for that shooting yet.
Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
