COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – WIS News 10 and nonprofit organization Grant Me Hope are working together to help kids who are aging out of the foster care program find a forever home.
According to the National Center for Homeless Education, more than 600,000 children will spend time in the United Sates Foster Care System each year.
Right now, there are almost 125,000 children waiting for adoption and 23,000 children will age out of foster care this year with nowhere to go.
Over the next several weeks, WIS News 10 and Grant Me Hope will highlight some South Carolina children in need of adoption.
“Homelessness really bothers me,” said Grant Me Hope Founder Helen Zeerip. “Imagine being a child and your parents have failed you. You’ve been taken from what you’ve known as ‘home.’ You’re scared. You’ve bounced from foster family to foster family, or institution, and now you are aging out of the system with no one. Something needs to change.”
There are additional options for people looking for help or interested in adoption.

“These children don’t have to go out into the world alone with no one to love and support them. They can be saved from human traffickers, gangs, and from a life of prison. They will have found a home!” said Zeerip.
