‘Ideal platform.’ Natick child performers will present Disney classic on April 11-12

NATICK — The Natick Academy of Performing Arts, a nonprofit that focuses on beginner to intermediate acting and singing for both adults and children, will present Disney’s “The Jungle Book Kids” later this month, according to a community announcement.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 11; and at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12. Both shows will take place at MassBay Community College in Wellesley.

The musical, based on the beloved animated film, will feature a 22-member cast of young performers, according to the announcement. Audience members will be “transported to the jungle” to face colorful characters including tigers, snakes, elephants, bears and monkeys.

“This is the perfect show to introduce even the youngest children to the magic of theater,” said Holly Chin, founder and artistic director of NAPA, in a statement. “The 45-minute show has something for everyone — fun dance numbers, songs that kids can sing along to, and performers who younger theater-goers can relate to. I think audience members will have as much fun as all the kids on the stage.”

Director says show is ‘ideal platform’ for young performers

The musical follows the adventures of Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera and their jungle friends, complete with classic songs like “The Bare Necessities” and “I Wanna Be Like You,” according to the announcement.

Chin said the production is an ideal platform for NAPA’s youngest performers to develop and showcase their talents.

“This musical gives our cast the opportunity to show off their personalities and, in some cases, come out of their shells,” she said. “The animal characters are big and bold and really, really funny. The performers can be silly, and have fun, while at the same time learning the basic components of theater — acting, singing and dancing.”

The cast includes children ages 5-9 from Natick and surrounding communities.

Tickets are priced at $11 for seniors and children under 12, and $16 for adults. For more information, visit napastage.org.
