Idaho Foodbank impacted by cuts to Emergency Food Assistance Program

Meridian, Idaho (CBS2) – The Idaho Foodbank is being impacted by cuts to the “The Emergency Food Assistance Program.”

A spokesperson for the foodbank tells Idahonews.com the cuts are limited to bonus orders for the Emergency Food Assistance Program.

The United States Department of Agriculture provides the “The Emergency Food Assistance Program.”

In Idaho, the program is managed through the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.

The Idaho Foodbank administers TEFAP in some parts of the state.

This cancelled bonus order of TEFAP includes pulled pork and turkey the foodbank was scheduled to receive this summer. The foodbank says, “Protein is in high demand, so it is unfortunate to see this order cancelled.”

11% of food at the Idaho Foodbank comes from government food programs and 5% of revenue comes from government funding.

The foodbank says percentages are much higher for some foodbanks in other states.
