IONIA — The Ionia Department of Public Safety and Ionia County recently received a donation of automated external defibrillators, according to a community announcement.
The donation was made by the School Emergency Response Coalition and Triple Js Car Show.
“These life-saving devices will assist our public safety officers when responding to emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community,” wrote Ionia Mayor John Milewski II in the announcement. “We extend our deepest thanks to SERC and Triple Js Car Show, who together made this possible.”
Last year, SERC and Triple Js Car Show donated two AEDs to the Ionia Department of Public Safety.
SERC is a nonprofit organization that’s focused on teaching CPR and AED courses to high school students for the past 10 years. It also connects students with public safety professionals, including police, fire, EMS and emergency communications center operators, to provide career opportunities for consideration and exploration. The next Triple Js Car Show will take place Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Ionia Fairgrounds. The event will include a craft show and silent auction, with proceeds benefiting Bikes and Trikes, the Saranac Fire Department, Ionia Community Awareness, Ionia County Meals on Wheels and Suicide Awareness and Prevention.
The event began five years ago in memory of Jimmy Bennett, Jimmy Nummer and Jimmy Montgomery.
