Michigan invests in regional food infrastructure

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced nearly $4 million in funding to support more than 50 value-added and regional food system projects.

Director Tim Boring says the investments highlight the diverse and expansive agriculture opportunities that contribute to economic prosperity and strengthen food access across the state.

The Underserved, Value-Added and Regional Food Systems grants invest up to $100,000 in projects that enhance supply chains as well as support traditionally underserved business owners including beginning and veteran farmers.

Funding will support local infrastructure expansions for food and meat processing, packaging, cold storage, retail spaces, and more.
