When Matthew Rodriguez of Rosenberg turned 16, his dad and grandfather took him car shopping.
They were driving through Eagle Lake when they spotted an older model GMC with a for sale sign in its window.
Matt bought the truck right then and there.
Over the years he has had the interior restored, the outside repainted and overhauled the engine.
The truck has picked up nine awards at car shows over the years, including best paint and best of show.
He picked up another award during the 2025 Lamar Consolidated High School Auto Fest car show in Rosenberg on Saturday.
Some 63 vehicles were entered into this year’s competition.
