Cat Food Sold In Wyoming Recalled Because Of Bird Flu

Laramie County Public Health says a cat food that has been sold in Wyoming has been recalled by the United States Food And Drug Administration due to concerns about H5N1, commonly known as bird flu.

That’s according to a news release from the Health Department.

According to the release, the recalled cat food is Savage Cat Food Large Chicken Boxes 84 ounces and Small Chicken Boxes 21 ounces. The boxes have a best used by date of 11-15-2026.

Besides Wyoming, the food is known to have been sold in Nebraska and Colorado.

Human Symptoms Of Bird Flu

The release says people who have handled the cat food should  watch for symptoms of bird flu, including  ”eye redness or irritation, cough, sore throat, sneezing, runny/stuffy nose, muscle/body aches, headaches, fatigue, fever, trouble breathing, seizures, rash, diarrhea, nausea, and/or vomiting. People exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare provider.”

While so far no human cases of bird flu because of the cat food are known to have occurred, it could happen,

Symptoms Of Bird Flu In Cats

In cats, symptoms can include include ”fever, sluggishness, low appetite, reddened or inflamed eyes, discharge from eyes and nose, difficulty breathing, and neurological signs, such as stiff body movements, seizure, lack of coordination, and blindness.”

If your cat shows these symptoms they should immediately see a veterinarian.

If you have the cat food, you can return it to the retailer for a refund..
